Janet Engelhard

Photon Wrangler

When I was just 15 my father gave me my first real camera. If I could have I would have slept with it, so attached was I to my new way of looking at the world.

A few decades have passed and technology has moved along as well. The hundreds of photo albums I had filled are a thing of the past now, as silver and paper has been replaced by 0s and 1s.

I have lugged a good portion of my weight around the world in camera bodies and lenses while those around me document their lives with phones, of all things. I am an artist that uses light as my medium, for now at least those tiny cameras can’t begin to capture enough light, but time and technology matches on. Who knows what the future may bring?

On this site you will find a lean representation of the hundreds of thousands of photos I have in my collection. If you love something, or want something special, let me know on the Contact page. Feel free to drop me a line to say you have enjoyed my shots, just don’t contact me for your weddings and bar mitzvahs. Your guests have phones for that.
